Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information CAnime collects, why we collect it, how it is used and shared, and how users can access, correct or delete their information.
1. Scope and accountability
This Privacy Policy applies to CAnime websites, web applications and related services. CAnime is responsible for personal information under its control and aims to follow Canadian privacy principles, including accountability, identifying purposes, consent, limited collection, limited use and retention, safeguards, openness, individual access and challenge rights.
CAnime is not intended to collect highly sensitive personal information. Please do not post government IDs, financial account numbers, health records, private addresses or other unnecessary sensitive information in listings, profiles, chats or feedback.
2. Information we collect
- Account information, such as email address, phone verification status, login method, CAnime ID, display name, avatar and profile settings.
- Profile and community information, such as city, province, bio, MBTI or gender if you choose to provide them, verification status, reputation signals and public social links if you choose to publish them.
- Content you submit, including listings, photos, item descriptions, event suggestions, activity posts, feedback, reports, reviews and moderation notes.
- Messages and attachments needed to provide station messages, image messages, read state, blocking, reporting and abuse prevention.
- Technical information, such as IP address, device/browser information, cookies, security logs, timestamps, rate-limit signals and server logs.
- Admin and audit information, such as reviewer actions, moderation outcomes, account role changes and operational logs.
3. How we use information
- To create accounts, authenticate users, maintain sessions and protect account security.
- To publish listings, profiles, events, activities, messages, notifications and search results.
- To operate moderation, identity verification, fraud prevention, rate limiting, abuse detection and safety reporting.
- To respond to feedback, troubleshoot bugs, maintain storage assets, improve user experience and keep the service reliable.
- To enforce Terms of Use, Posting Policy and applicable law, and to preserve records where needed for legal, safety or operational reasons.
4. Consent and choices
By using CAnime, submitting information or choosing privacy settings, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure described in this policy. You may withdraw consent where legally and technically possible, but some features may no longer work without required information.
You control whether certain profile details, gender, MBTI, external contact links, following lists and follower lists are public through account settings. Content you publish in public areas is intended to be visible to other users.
5. Sharing and disclosure

- With moderators or admin users who need access to review reports, feedback, verification requests, abuse issues or operational records.
- With law enforcement, regulators, courts, rights holders or affected parties where required or permitted by law, or where necessary to protect users, CAnime or the public.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring or transfer of service operations, subject to reasonable confidentiality and privacy safeguards.
6. Service providers and cross-border processing
CAnime uses third-party infrastructure and tools to operate the service. Personal information may be stored or processed in Canada, the United States or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.
When information is processed outside your province or country, it may be subject to the laws and lawful access requests of that jurisdiction. We use contractual, technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
7. Retention and deletion
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, audit logs or platform integrity.
User-replaced images and unused uploads may be marked for delayed deletion to prevent accidental loss and allow moderation review. Messages, reports, reviews and audit records may be retained longer where needed for safety, evidence, legal compliance or abuse prevention.
8. Security safeguards
CAnime uses administrative, technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, such as authentication, role-based admin access, private storage for sensitive feedback files, rate limits, security monitoring and restricted service-role usage.
No online service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for using strong credentials, keeping your account private and avoiding unnecessary disclosure of sensitive information.
9. Access, correction and deletion requests
You may access and update many account details directly in your account settings. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information by contacting CAnime.
We may need to verify your identity before responding. We may decline or limit requests where permitted by law, including where records must be retained for security, fraud prevention, legal claims, audit, safety or another legitimate purpose.
10. Children and minors
CAnime is not directed to children. Users under the age of majority must use the service with parent or guardian permission and supervision. We may remove content or restrict accounts where we believe a minor is at risk or using the service inappropriately.
11. Privacy questions and complaints
For privacy questions, access requests or complaints, contact CAnime through the Feedback Centre or by email at legal@canime.ca. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the privacy regulator that applies in your province.
